What do I have against United signing Matteo Darmian? the answer is absolutely nothing, Matteo is a great talent, someone that can grow into a formidable right-back in the hands of Louis Van Gaal but I was very excited when reports claimed that United was planning to sign Seamus Coleman for an undisclosed fee plus Jonny Evans (good riddance!) because I think Seamus Coleman has the advantage over all of United's right-back targets, even that Nathaniel Clyne who said he wants to win titles and experience the Champions League but went with Liverpool, i'm sorry but that's a certified joke in all continents.
But enough bashing and let's get straight to the point why Seamus Coleman has the edge over Matteo Darmian - first of all, Premier League has proven to be a hard stomping ground for any footballers out there, both Coleman and Clyne emerged to be two of the best right-backs in the league so far which means my man, Seamus is a proven right-back, he has the experience in playing in the Premier League and faced the toughest SOBs in the league as for Darmian, if he eventually sign with United, he has to adapt to the playing style which means more time and no disrespect to Serie A, The Barclays Premier League is WAY more fast-paced and tackles more harder than the Italian League which is why this difference in League playing style is my second point of the day.
Ever since Gianfranco Zola, there is no Italians that could push through the ranks as "The Italian Stallion" of the Premier League and that is a fact, unfortunately. From Fabio Borini, Marco Borriello, Antonio Nocerino, Emanuele Giaccherini and our absolute favorite, Mister Mario "The Man Who Couldn't Wear a Training Bib" Balotelli, none of these players can cope with the toughness that is the Premier League, it's like a curse for Italian players to just "talently" die in this league which is why I am very worried with Matteo Darmian. I know it's not a valid point to make but it is somewhat like a superstition though, right? I hope if eventually the imminent deal do happen, Darmian will flourish to be the right-back that United needs right now with Rafael looks to be off somewhere but again. I like Coleman better than Darmian, he a fighting Irish, goddammit!
