When I heard that United is going to go back to adidas after 13 year with Nike I was thrilled because let's face it, Nike have had made some terrible kits at the end of their stint, for me it's the 12/13 kit, the 20th title kit, I mean checkered pattern? In Indonesia where I live, we called it the Sarong Kit. However, this season Nike made some progress with their kits that I wished United wait just another year with Nike, have you seen the new PSG and Roma kits? Their fucking amazing!
But continuing on, I thought adidas will take the page off of Lyon's playbook when it comes to creating a one of a kind, biggest contract in the world kind of kit. I was going places in my mind creating my fantasy kit with adidas, why just in my mind, well because I can't use Photoshop, I'm terrible at it, I tried to re-design the current kit, but failed miserably, but anyway since in July, adidas and United said that they are doing a retro vibe to their new kit, sort of an homage to the old adidas kit, I got even more excited, I was wishing the 89/90 kit template because I love the kit collar, you know the same one as England 2014 Home Kit but no, instead of making the kit as unique as possible, they decided to make it as bland as shit.
First of all, don't be putting slogan #bethedifference when there is no difference whatsoever with the 14/15 kit, it's just last season home kit - change the collar into a v-neck - add the three stripes and call it our new home kit, well done, adidas. Now this not joking, but look at it from the back, try to cover the three stripes and voile, you can't tell whether it's this season's kit or the previous one. And by the way, in the promotion video, adidas is using a red pitchfork held by the players, why not put a watermark of the pitchfork on the shirt? Do kind of a sash thing or vertical spiking the United badge, I mean do something with the pitchfork other than putting it in the video! Oh and I'm not gonna start with the Away Kit, they just give us a white shirt with v-neck and red three stripes...that's it. I'm a United kit collector but I collect only the good looking kits, so I'll just buy the third kit.
If it were me who's designing the kit, I'll probably do a finer job than Inigo Turner. The home kit will take an example from the current Bayern and Madrid's kits. I will take the 89/90 kit collar in red color, the same as the kit color and the three stripes would be in shiny red color and the white cuff, I will take the idea of the 11/12 home kit and put a white with a black center for the cuff, there, I've created a simple yet elegant design and that is just one of my design ideas.
Adidas or Manchester United, if you guys are reading this, I give a challenge to put me in charge of your designing team, I will create a more bold design, a more homage kit than Inigo Turner's, believe you me!
