Anyway, nevermind that, let's talk about the new Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed (I kinda wonder what the movie would look like if Edgar Wright was still the Director) and starring the ever-so-funny, Paul Rudd, I mean, I love this guy since he was cast as Phoebe's husband, Mike on F.R.I.E.N.D.S, so everything he does is alright with me, Paul starred alongside Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Tip "T.I." Harris, David Dastmalchian and the thunder-stealing, Michael Pena, who was hilarious in this movie.
Okay, so Ant-Man, Ant-Man in the comics was one of the founding fathers of the Avengers and creator of Ultron but since the releasing schedule puts Avengers: Age of Ultron ahead of Ant-Man and thankfully, Marvel didn't bother with any origin story and went ahead with the time and cast Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. I won't bother telling you all from the beginning, because I know you already know the story of Scott Lang from the comics, I do wanna see the relationship between Scott and his daughter, Cassie in future films though, will we get to see Stature in the near future?
One of the spoilers of this movie was the back story of Hank Pym, played by the legendary Michael Douglas, so the story goes that Hank Pym was the founding members of SHIELD alongside Howard Stark, Tony's daddy as the first Ant-Man but due to some tragedy, Hank decided to retire and kept the Ant-Man suit and the Pym Particles to himself (imagine if he shared it to Stark, tiny Ultron?). The tragedy was that Hank Pym lost his wife, Janet van Dyne a.k.a. The Wasp to the Sub-Atomic world or 'Quantum-Realm' whilst trying to stop an air-tight missile which led to Hank being over-protective of his daughter, Hope which led her to become so angry and eager to please her father which led to Hank recruiting Scott for the main mission of stealing the Yellowjacket which led to Hope didn't like the decision as she feels that she is the most qualified to wear the Ant-Man suit which led to Hank telling the story about Janet and why he can't stand to lose Hope to which led to a very heart-compelling father-daughter moment which led to Scott ruining the moment by saying, "this is awesome" and holding the thumbs up.
I love this movie, it's a really good first title movie from Marvel unlike Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger which were movies to set up The Avengers but Ant-Man and the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel finally did it right with no more origin stories and I love how Marvel kept it light and filled all of their movies with hilarious jokes unlike DC's decision to make their movies darker which I still love also, the Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel were huge success but I think Marvel has the slight advantage with their slight comedy infused inside a serious movie but I do have a problem with this Ant-Man movie though...
First of, the villain - Yellowjacket is the attempt of Darren Cross played by my one of my favorites, Corey Stoll who I remembered delivering a strong performance in House of Cards, trying to replicate his former mentor, Hank Pym's particle to sell to an arms dealer or HYDRA, I don't know which is which. Now, isn't that kinda repetitive of Iron Man 1 and 2? I think the debate around comic fans is somewhat right, Marvel needs to develop a villain that isn't just a copycat of the superhero, a lot fans said that Marvel villains don't have character like for instance the Joker or Lex Luthor and I am going to agree with that point. Everyone love Heath Ledger's Joker and Michael Shannon's Zod but who do we love in the Marvel Cinematic Universe other than Loki? Even Loki wasn't supposed to be the main villain in the first Avengers, just fyi.
The second point is where is the team-ups? I know, that Ant-Man is a first out of many Ant-Mans to come and yes, he doesn't have any superhero friends just yet but I'm talking about the larger sense of the Marvel movies. Ever since The Battle of New York also known as the fist Avengers movie, we all thought that at some point Captain America would help Tony in Iron Man 3 or Thor helping Captain Rodgers in The Winter Soldier or even Iron Man travelling the galaxy with Thor in the Dark World but nooooo, those team-ups in one character's title movie never did happen and yes the next Captain America: Civil War will feature the Cap and Tony but they're battling each other, not teaming up, yet.
So, all in all, Ant-Man is a solid movie from Marvel, the action is top-notch, especially the fight with Falcon over at SHIELD new home base, the scenes were rife with hilarious jokes and I thank you, Marvel for casting Paul Rudd, he is the obvious choice for this character and like his previous movie, I would like to say, I love you, Ant-Man!
Oh and eventually, Hope does get to wear the Wasp suit and in the end credit, Cap America and Falcon found the Winter Soldier, what? I told you this was going to be a spoiler and not a review.
Go see the movie!!!
